Will Connecticut see the first outbreak of new civil war?

Americans must stand with those who stand on their rights

Will Connecticut see the first outbreak of a new civil war? A WND article by Bob Unruh (U.S. State: 350,000 Gun Owners suddenly felons) raises that possibility. It led me to write the following Stop, look, listenbrief commentary:

The U.S. Constitution (Article 1, Section 9) forbids ex post facto laws.  Immunity from abuse on account of such laws is therefore one of the privileges of citizens of the United States. The State of Connecticut is enjoined by the Constitution’s 14th Amendment from making or enforcing any law “which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.” But the State’s gun confiscation law clearly does so.  That will not cease to be true, even if the U.S. Supreme Court says otherwise. For in matters of unalienable right the Justices cannot be the final tribunal for those who believe, as America’s founders did, in the right of appeal to Heaven.

All Americans have a stake in the courage of Connecticut’s citizens.  As they stand on their rights, it is the duty of every American who cares about ordered liberty and Constitutional government in this country to stand with them. This is surely a test case, to see whether Americans will acquiesce when their Constitutional rights are egregiously violated. The passage of this bill was an act of supreme and reckless stupidity, no matter if it came of sincere good intentions, or as a malicious attempt to “probe with bayonets” in order to determine whether this is still the home of the brave, or has become Holder’s “nation of cowards”.

If the Constitution’s assailants start search and seizure, kicking in doors and rifling through homes, there will be casualties, to remind us that the era of the Boston Tea Party was also the era of the Boston Massacre.  Unless they are simply mad, or simply lost to evil, those bent on shredding the U.S. Constitution, in Connecticut and elsewhere in the United States, must be made to understand that their use of force will no more be the end of the U.S. Constitution than the Boston Massacre was the end of America’s liberty.

And what follows their first assaults, though it begins with civil resistance, will surely end, as others have said, in civil war. Pray God this sobering thought deters liberty’s assailants from their tyrannical agenda. If it does not, all Americans may have occasion to remember why some stripes in our nation’s flag are red. It is the color of the heart, as well as what passes through it when enriched by the breath of the free. It also signifies what dwells in the heart. So, Lord, grant us courage in this time of trial, that our God-endowed right may prevail.
